This thrush measures 23 cm in length, has a straight beak of an olive-yellow color, gray paws, a black eye finely surrounded by yellow and a dusky brownish-brown back. The throat is whitish streaked with brown, the chest is gray-brown, which changes to an opaque orange in the belly. There is no significant sexual dimorphism, but females tend to be larger than males and slightly lighter in the womb. The existence of aberrant stains, including albinism, is not uncommon, but it is rarely mentioned in the literature. The cause of this is not well understood, but it may be linked to changes in your environment or genetic mutations.

Leukism also occurs, sometimes mistakenly called albinism. Leukism is the partial or total loss of melanin, according to studies has a frequency of less than 1%. It occurs mainly in plumage, and in the rest of the body pigmentation is usually normal. It is not known how this condition is genetically transmitted. There are few cases of follow-up in nature.

It originally inhabits open forests and the edges of fields, but as it is a very adaptable species it has successfully penetrated farming areas and cities, however requiring the proximity of water. It is often seen roaming the ground, but never far from trees. It is a territorial bird but relatively shy, and its melodious, fluffy and frequent song soon denounces its presence, being able to be heard from more than 1 km away. Its song is long and can last up to two minutes without interruption. The main phrase has 10 to 15 notes, but it is capable of imitating the vocalizations of other birds such as the curiango and the john of clay and assimilating passages in their own song, in numerous variations. She sings mainly in the reproductive period, before dawn and dusk, to attract the female and demarcate her territory.

The nest is made between September and January in bushes, dense trees and banana clusters, using fibers and sticks connected by a little mud, in the shape of a deep bowl. Inside they are covered with softer materials such as flower stems and grass. Lay 3 to 4 blue-green sepia-colored eggs, measuring 28 x 21 mm. The puppies are born after thirteen days of hatching, receiving attention from both parents. In three weeks they can leave the nest. Each female hatches three times a year and can generate up to 6 puppies per season. The orange thrush can live up to ten years in the wild.

Its nutrition is basically composed of arthropods, larvae, earthworms and ripe fruits. It can become an important predator of frogs and toads as soon as they leave the tadpole stage. It is an important disperser of seeds of the fruit species that it consumes, because it either regurgitates the seeds in other places or they leave in their fertilizing feces and with that they become more apt for germination. Like other species in his family, he can gather in mixed flocks that employ different strategies to improve his chances of good food, which gives him an adaptive advantage for the occupation of degraded and urban areas.

There are not many records in the specialized literature of natural enemies of the orange thrush, but it has already been observed that the toucan Ramphastos dicolorus prey on young and even adult specimens. In urban areas the domestic cat is an important predator. In some regions it is threatened by habitat destruction and wild animal trafficking.
