40 years among robbers and murderers. Notes of the first chief of the St. Petersburg detective police I. D. Putilin.
These notes were published in 1889 and were reprinted many times until 1917. Their author was the legendary first chief of the St. Petersburg detective police from 1866 to 1889. In essence, Ivan Dmitrievich Putilin created a school of domestic investigation. In one of the stories he directly writes: “Shuvalov expressed surprise at my abilities, but at that time I myself was pleased and proud of this matter, because all the searches were made by me only on the basis of logical considerations.” Mind you, this was in 1859, long before the advent of the deductive method from Sherlock Holmes.
Based on this book, Leonid Yuzefovich wrote stories that formed the basis of the film “Detective of the St. Petersburg Police” and the series “Detective Putilin”.
