The Confessions is an autobiographical work by Augustine of Hippo (354 - 430), where he tells of his quest for God. He has a twofold purpose: to confess his sins and faults directly to God, but also to proclaim the glory of God. The work is composed of thirteen books. "The thirteen books of my Confessions praise the just and good God of my evils and my goods, they raise to God the intelligence and the heart of Man. "

St. Augustine is one of the four Fathers of the Western Church and one of the thirty-six doctors of the Church.
