The combat system in Ji Mo Lian Ji: Romancing Saga of Beauty and Devil is turn-based, like in traditional JRPGs. When it's your turn, you can choose the type of action you want each character to do and what the objective is. This way, you can normally defeat the enemies you have in front of you.
Between combats, you can talk to and interact with dozens of different characters. Many of the characters you find will also join your group of adventurers. From the map of the city, you can visit the different characters and talk with them to improve your relationships.
