In accordance with the Law on the Prosecutor's Office, the Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation oversees the implementation of laws in force on the territory of the Russian Federation, takes measures aimed at eliminating their violations and bringing the perpetrators to justice, and carries out criminal prosecution.

The bodies of the prosecutor's office constitute a single centralized system with subordination of subordinate prosecutors to higher ones and to the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation. They exercise their powers independently of government and administrative bodies, public and political organizations and movements, and in strict accordance with the laws in force on the territory of the Russian Federation.

There is a ban on influencing the prosecutor in any form in order to influence the decision he makes. The requirements of the prosecutor arising from his powers are subject to unconditional execution within the prescribed period.

The law establishes the procedure for exercising prosecutorial supervision over the implementation of laws: by authorities, legal entities; bodies carrying out operational-search activity, inquiry and preliminary investigation; in places of detention of detainees, preliminary detention, during the execution of punishment and other measures of a coercive nature, imposed by the court.

It has been established that in cases stipulated by law, the prosecutor participates in the consideration of cases by the courts.

In carrying out criminal prosecution in court, the prosecutor acts as a public prosecutor.
