The Flugärger app from the NRW consumer center is a self-help tool that enables claims to be calculated conveniently and free of charge and asserted to the airline.

In the event of flight problems, travelers may be entitled to up to 600 euros - regardless of the ticket price. And even if the flight annoyance caused additional expenses such as meals at the airport or hotel room, passengers often have claims against the airline. If passengers cancel their ticket themselves, they may be able to reclaim taxes and fees or a portion of the ticket price. The database contains all worldwide flight connections from May 1st, 2019, so that the flight data is automatically supplemented on the basis of the flight number and the date. Of course, it is also possible to enter the required flight data manually.

The app generates a cover letter that users can send by email or post. The user's mail program opens automatically with the request text and all personal information. It has already been addressed to the airline and just needs to be sent. Alternatively, a PDF can be generated to send a letter to the airline.

If the airline rejects the claims from the cover letter or does not respond in due time, the user can contact the responsible arbitration board. The app automatically determines which arbitration board is responsible. In the case of the arbitration board for public transport (söp), numerous data from the app are automatically transferred to the söp form so that users do not have to enter everything twice. This process can be organized in the app with the help of a deadline alarm and a history view.
