As an Indonesian Record Label operating outside the boundaries of mainstream music, one of DIMI’s main missions is to seek out artists who possess the talent, vision, and passion to create something refreshing and impressive.
David Karto, Sandy Maheswara, and Adhi Djimar founded DIMI out of their friendship with independent music communities and love for music itself. Operating out of a container in South Jakarta’s busy Gandaria area from 2000 until 2005, the label has grown into a respectable peddler of quality music.
The label's current catalogue comprise of more than 100 local artists boasting a variety of genre. Artists such as Parkdrive, Endah N Rhesa, Pure Saturday, White Shoes & The Couples Company, Adhitia Sofyan, LLW, and Efek Rumah Kaca have grown together with DIMI in establishing a non-mainstream music scene in Indonesia.
With more than 10 international artists represented in Indonesia (Monday Michiru, Thirdiq, Martin Denev, Joujuoka, Root Soul, Domu, etc), DIMI also aims to develop a relationship between Indonesia’s non-mainstream music scene and its international counterparts - wherever they are placed in the world.
DIMI’s ten-year dedication to music was full of struggle but rewarding. Not only awarded with Rolling Stone Magazine Indonesia’s editor’s choice award for The New Alternative in 2009, DIMI’s expansion plans are also in motion. Under a brand name [at]demajors, the company’s currently establishing a creative hub featuring a store, a performance area, and a recording studio at its old stomping ground in Gandaria. Following up on long time partnerships with online music distributors such as iTunes and MelOn, DIMI’s online presence has also been created with the development of an online radio called demajorsradio.com, which went live in early 2011.
DIMI also attained a new partner. Otto Djauhari, a long time friend who shares the same love and passion for music have jumped on board in 2011 to strengthen the company’s ability to continue to grow the non-mainstream music business nationally, as well as internationally.
